Trailhead

Welcome to the ATventure!

April 2011 will be the start to a long walk in the woods; I am planning for a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail (AT)!

I will be hiking with a great friend, Frank. We will begin our trek in northern Georgia on top of Springer mountain and meander our way north, 2,175 miles, to Mt. Katahdin located in northern Maine. The journey will take approximately four to six months, intersect 14 states, and take roughly five million footsteps.

Why are we embarking on a seemingly senseless voyage? Well, because! As an avid outdoor enthusiast this adventure is a chance of a lifetime. I seek this challenge to test my mettle as a human and to discover the self that lies dormant during the 9-to-5 debt-dodging that we call "modern civilization".

I will be connected to the grid to obtain nutrition, information, and communication (and to update this blog.) The interconnectedness of This existence is unavoidable and can be embraced; through this blog Frank and I will share our AT ventures with the hope that you all will enjoy the experience with us.

Our departure date is loosely set for some day during the first week in April. Though it's nearly three months away we're busy planning the logistics: equipment, food, physical training, food, mental preparation, and FOOD must all be addressed in order to set ourselves up for a successful AT thru-hike.

So please follow our blog and join me and Frank on this epic trek across our nation's longest marked footpath!
